Best Indoor Putting Greens with Ball Return: 2026 Guide
A putting green with ball return can make short practice sessions more convenient. The important questions are whether the whole assembly fits your room, which putts actually return and whether you want a raised cup or a flat target.
This September 2026 update compares two manufacturer-documented mat systems and one portable target alternative. It is based on published specifications, not our own product testing. We have removed earlier recommendations whose exact models or claimed return systems could not be verified.
Ball-return options compared
| Option | Size or setup | Return arrangement | Best reason to consider it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perfect Practice V5 | Compact 8 feet; Standard 9 feet 6 inches; XL 15 feet 6 inches | Raised target with return track | Choice of lengths and printed alignment guides |
| SKLZ Accelerator Pro | 9 feet × 16.25 inches | Upslope at cup with continuous return | Simple setup with guides at 3, 5 and 7 feet |
| PuttOUT Premium Pressure Putt Trainer | Separate portable target; mat not included | Curved ramp sends successful putts back partway | Add a pace challenge to an existing surface |
Perfect Practice: choose the size first
Perfect Practice offers Compact, Standard and XL versions of its V5 mat. Each combines printed guides with a return system. The Standard and XL list two target sizes; do not assume these are regulation golf holes. Check the selected variant’s dimensions and targets before ordering. Compare Perfect Practice models.
The range makes sense if you want repeated putts toward a physical target and can leave enough floor clear. Total mat length is not the same as usable putting distance. You also need space for the raised end, return track and your stance.
SKLZ Accelerator Pro: a straightforward return mat
The Accelerator Pro has an upslope at the cup and marked positions at three, five and seven feet. Its manufacturer lists a nine-foot by 16.25-inch footprint. Check the location of the return track against your feet before buying. See SKLZ specifications and current pricing.
Its purpose is convenient repetition. An uphill target asks the ball to climb before dropping, so do not treat the force needed to reach it as a universal pace for flat outdoor putts. Practice finishing distance on a level surface too.
PuttOUT Pressure Putt Trainer: a target, not a complete green
The Premium Pressure Putt Trainer is a portable ramp target for an existing putting surface. PuttOUT describes its micro-target as holding a ball struck on the right line with pace equivalent to finishing 18 inches beyond the hole. Other successful putts roll back down the ramp. It does not collect every miss or send every ball back to your feet. Read the PuttOUT design and instructions.
Choose this approach if you already own a mat and want an additional challenge without replacing it. The micro-target is a game for that device, not a prescription to hit every real putt 18 inches past the hole regardless of slope.
What to check before ordering
- Full footprint: include the return rail, target base and stance clearance.
- Miss collection: read whether a backstop or channel catches misses. A return system cannot return balls that leave it.
- Surface and floor: wrinkles, joints and floor slopes can change the roll and interrupt the return.
- Storage: check which pieces detach and how the mat should be rolled.
- Exact bundle: verify accessories and selected length rather than relying on a photograph.
Use the return to save time, then vary the task
Start with a short set from one marked position. Move to another distance and repeat. Finish by putting to a stopping target on a flat section instead of the raised cup. Record makes and start-line misses so the session has a purpose beyond keeping the return system busy.
For flat mats and wider practice greens, see our indoor putting mat comparison. If floor space is tight, start with the small-space guide.
