Best Putting Mats for Indoor Practice: 2026 Buyer’s Guide
A putting mat is useful when it fits your room and gives you feedback on the skill you want to practice. A return track makes repeated short putts convenient. A flat mat with target zones gives you more room to practice pace. A wider green can accommodate different starting lines and adjustable breaks.
This 2026 buyer’s guide compares five options using manufacturer specifications checked on September 25, 2026. These are research-based recommendations, not results from our own hands-on testing. Dimensions below describe the product footprint, not the maximum usable putt length. Prices and availability can change.
Five indoor putting mats to compare
| Mat | Listed dimensions | Main reason to consider it | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perfect Practice V5 XL | 15 feet 6 inches long | Longer lane with alignment markings and a ball return | Needs considerable clear floor space |
| PuttOUT Medium | 240 × 50 cm, about 7 feet 10 inches × 20 inches | Roll-up practice mat with distance and pace markings | No return track or physical cup included |
| Wellputt 13ft Performance | 4 × 0.5 m, sold as 13 × 1.6 feet | Printed targets and structured distance-control exercises | No automatic ball return |
| SKLZ Accelerator Pro | 9 feet × 16.25 inches | Ball return and guides at 3, 5 and 7 feet | Raised cup changes the final part of the putt |
| Big Moss Augusta | 4 × 10, 4 × 12 or 4 × 15 feet | Wider surface with break pads | Needs a dedicated practice area |
Perfect Practice V5 XL: for repeated putts in a long room
The XL model combines printed alignment guides with a return track. Perfect Practice lists its length as 15 feet 6 inches, so measure the full available area before ordering. Its shorter Compact and Standard models use less space. The return system is the main convenience here: you can repeat a stroke without collecting every holed ball.
Choose it if you value that convenience and have room for the full assembly. The raised target area does not reproduce a flat outdoor putt, so also practice pace on a level green. Compare Perfect Practice sizes and specifications.
PuttOUT Medium: for easy storage
PuttOUT lists a 240 × 50 cm footprint, distance markings through 6 feet, alignment lines and pace targets. Its advertised green speed is 10 on the Stimpmeter. A carrying bag is included; a separate Pressure Putt Trainer is not included with the standalone mat.
This is a practical choice if the mat must be rolled away between sessions. The printed target lets you work on where the ball stops, although you will collect the balls yourself. Check that the mat lies flat on your floor before judging your stroke. See PuttOUT Medium specifications.
Wellputt 13ft Performance: for structured pace practice
The 13ft Performance mat uses alignment markings, starting positions and target zones. Wellputt lists speeds of 10 and 11.5 feet depending on direction, plus a companion app with 54 exercises. The manufacturer also presents this model as the 4m Performance in some regions.
Consider it if you prefer completing drills and recording results to repeatedly holing the same putt. Its flat targets encourage attention to finishing distance, but the narrow strip still limits the range of lines you can practice. Check Wellputt’s model details.
SKLZ Accelerator Pro: for a simple ball-return setup
The Accelerator Pro measures 9 feet by 16.25 inches and includes guides at 3, 5 and 7 feet. Its continuous return and upslope at the cup suit repeated short-putt practice. SKLZ listed it at $54.99 when checked on September 25, 2026, before any applicable shipping or tax.
It is worth comparing if your priority is a straightforward return system at a lower price. Check the return track’s position against your stance and available floor width. As with other ramped mats, transfer your pace practice to a flat surface as well. Check the current SKLZ listing.
Big Moss Augusta: for a wider practice area
The Augusta range offers 4-foot-wide greens in three lengths. Big Moss lists break pads, a backstop, a chipping mat and other accessories with the green. Its current listing describes V2 surfaces; the previous version of this article incorrectly called it an Augusta V5.
The extra width gives you more starting positions than a narrow mat. Break pads let you change the slope, making this an option for a dedicated practice room. Measure the full floor area and check the selected size and cup configuration before ordering. Compare Big Moss Augusta configurations.
How to choose a mat you will use
- Measure your space. Allow room for your stance beside the mat, its return track and safe access around it.
- Choose the feedback you need. Alignment marks help you check setup and start line. Distance targets help you assess pace. A return system mainly saves collection time.
- Check the floor. A slope, thick carpet or wrinkles can influence the roll. Test the same putt in both directions before drawing conclusions.
- Match your practice goal. An indoor mat can support short-putt practice, but it cannot reproduce every green speed, slope or outdoor distance.
A simple practice session
Start with ten putts from one distance and record how many start on your intended line. Then alternate between two target distances, counting balls that finish in a small zone you choose. Finish with a few putts without using the printed alignment guide. Use the same test next time so you can compare results.
